The Oakland Raiders will hold a press conference on Monday, January 30 at 12 noon to introduce Denver Bronco's defensive coordinator, Dennis Allen as the new head coach of the Oakland Raiders. Allen will be the first head coach with a defense background since John Madden was moved from linebackers coach to head coach of the Oakland Raiders in 1969. Allen will also be the first head coach that wasn't hand selected by the late Al Davis who was known to lean more towards offensive minds.
Dennis Allen was born on September 22, 1972 in Hurst, Texas. He played defensive back at L.D. Bell High School and later played at Texas A&M University. Signed in 1996 by the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent, Allen only competed in training camp before being released. Although his playing career falls short, his coaching history is substantial. After being released by the Buffalo Bills, Dennis went back to Texas A&M as a graduate assistant coach from 1996-1999. He then moved on to the University of Tulsa from 2000-2001 as a secondary coach.
He claimed his first NFL coaching job with the Altanta Falcons in 2002 where he was a defensive assistant and a quality control coach. During his 2004 year with the Falcons they obtained 48 sacks for the first time in the history of the club. From 2006 to 2010 Allen spent his career coaching for the New Orleans Saints. He was an assistant defensive line coach and a secondary coach. In 2011 the Devner Broncos hired him as their defensive coordinator.
The press conference will be available to watch on Monday via the Official Oakland Raiders website.
