After only one season as the Oakland Raiders head coach, various news sources are reporting that Hue Jackson has been dismissed of his duties. This news comes only hours before the Raiders scheduled press conference to introduce Reggie McKenzie as the organization's General Manager. Speculation of Hue's possible firing has been the talk of sports news since the organization hired McKenzie this past Friday.
Jackson turned around one of the worst offenses when he was hired as the team's offensive coordinator under former head coach Tom Cable in 2010. The late Al Davis fired Tom Cable in early 2011 naming Jackson as the organization's new head coach. The two seemed to have a promising relationship until Mr. Davis passed away October 8, 2011. The next day Jackson and his team, who were out of town to face the Houston Texans, put on their best game faces and played a remarkable game. America watched as Hue was brought to tears after winning a game that was so close and so important for the Raiders. As the season progressed many had high hopes that the Raiders would finally be back in the playoffs as they were on top of their division for most of their season. The season ended with the Raiders at 8-8 and the Denver Broncos on top of the division. And so Hue Jackson will be included on the list with Bill Callahan, Norv Turner, Art Shell, Lane Kiffin and Tom Cable as coaches who lasted only three seasons or less. With the hiring of McKenzie as GM it is speculated that he wants to bring in his own people. Will 2012 finally be the year of change and rebuilding for the Oakland Raiders?
The press conference can be seen live at 2 p.m. pst on the Raiders official site.
