Former Raiders wide receiver Tim Brown is amoungst the 15 modern-era finalists for this year's Pro Football Hall of Fame.

   The Hall of Fame selection comittee will select the four to seven enshrinees when they meet and vote on February 4th.  The selected will be named on Sunday, February 5 at 5:30 ET before Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapois.

 

Wide receiver Tim Brown was born and raised in Dallas, Texas where he graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School.  He then attend Norte Dame from 1984-1987.  The Los Angeles Raiders selected him with the 6th pick in the 1st round of the 1988 NFL Draft.  He played 16 years with the Los Angeles/Oakland Raiders.  On December 9, 2001 he returned a punt for 88 yards resulting in a touch down in a game against the Kansas City Chiefs making him the oldest player in the history of the NFL to score a touch down on a punt return.  Although he has made 6 playoff appearances with the Raiders; he has only one Super Bowl appearance which the Raiders lost to their former head coach Jon Gruden. In 2004 he was released by the Raiders and picked up by the team he played his only Super Bowl against, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  He was reunited with former head coach Jon Gruden.  On Monday, September 27, 2004 competed against his former team the Oakland Raiders and reached his 100th career receiving touch down (tying him with Steve Largent), as Raider fans gave him a standing ovation.  In 2005, he signed a one day contract with the Oakland Raiders so that he could retire a Raider.  Along with the press, only two Raiders officials and one active Raiders player, wide receiver Jerry Porter, were present on July 18 as Tim Brown held a press conference announcing his retirement.   He wore #81 throughout his entire NFL career and he was the last remaining Los Angeles Raider to play in Oakland.  Although Brown became eligible for enshrinement in 2010, this will be his third time on the ballot.

Senior candidates selected by the Hall of Fames senior comittee are Jack Butler- CB (1951-1959 Pittsburgh Steelers) and Dick Stanfel- G (1952-1955 Detroit Lions, 1956-1958 Washington Redskins).
