QB: Campbell. Do not expect the numbers he put up last year in Washington. While the line issues in Washington were arguably worse than in Oakland, that is marginal. Campbell will have a new system yet again, but also new players. Reasonable expectations are around 2800 yards, and 18 touchdowns. Campbell also takes a lot of sacks, and that is likely not to change much. Having Hue Jackson as his OC will help this some, but somewhere around 35 is not out of the question. His INT's should fall around 12-15 merely because of the new receivers. Mid to late round value, and a back up in most leagues
WR: This is a group without much fantasy value. Murphy had the best numbers last year, and I expect him to improve into the 800 yard 6 TD range. After that, the drop off is significant. Bey is being worked with hard in Oakland, and cannot help but improve over his 2009 numbers. Schilens is injury prone, but can do well when healthy. Higgins is inconsistant at best. Picking up Murphy as an emergency receiver late in the draft may be a steal in the last 5 rounds or so. RB: Here is where the fun begins. How do you value Bush and McFadden. The Raiders will run the ball, that much is obvious. Expect Bush to have more value than McFadden, and if used as expected, Bush could have a break out year, with 1000 yards and 8-10 TD's. McFadden is another one of those players with so much potential, but so many question marks. Bush is a good sleeper this season, and could be a steal in the 4th-5th round, but McFadden may be a huge value in the 8th-10th round in most leagues. TE: This one is easy. Miller is a top 5 TE, period. Campbell has made a career throwing to TE's and will continue the trend. Fact is, he now has one that is better than Cooley, and he will exploit that. Miller should be expected to get in the 1200 yard, 6 TD range of production. TE's are usually under valued as a whole in most leagues, so while he is going to have a banner year, he is still a steal in the 7th-9th round range. K: Jano is the enigma. He can boot the ball from mid field, and will be asked to do so at least a few times. But rangier kickers are also less accurate overall, and he is no exception. Jano is a last rounder, as are all kickers, but I rate him about 12th overall. If your league subtracts for missed kicks, this could cost you some points, but he was pretty accurate last year, not being asked to kick from quite so far as years past. If the Raiders show they can score more than 17 TD's, he may be undrafted (unless you play in a Raider league, then he is the first kicker taken) and a steal on the free agent market. D: Tough call. If you are in a 12 team league, the defense will go undrafted, again, unless you are in a Raider league. I have serious doubts that you will find the Raider defense being picked up unless it is merely a situational game or a bye week. But the defense quietly ranked 10th in sacks and if the offense can stay on the field, the defense will not be asked to do as much and may not be scored on like a drunk prom queen. Take the defense when they play KC, Seattle, St Louis, and Pitt (the Raiders have played Pitt very tough in recent years). Also watch for what happens to Vince Young. If he gets suspended, you are wise to take a floater on the defense against Kerry Collins who has proven to be error prone in Tennessee. IDP: If your league uses this position, Aso is not a great pick up, merely because no one throws his direction. Trevor Scott has some real potential, but unless you use more than three IDP's, his value is low. Seymour should have some added value this year, as he plays for a contract (unless he signs soon, then he is playing to prove his value) but given the crowded line, and his age, he may not be a good bet unless you use a lot of IDP's. Rookies: If your league uses a rookie draft, McClain is the one that stands out if you use IDP's, and you can expect a lot of tackles from McClain, but given his focus on run defense, you should not expect INT's from him. No offensive player drafted has any first year value, as Ford will be used as a return guy primarily, and Over all, while the Raiders will improve this year, the players that stand out for draft day are Miller, Bush and Murphy. These players are all production oriented players who will have good years. If Murphy continues to improve, he could be a starter in deep receiver leagues late this year, but expect Bush to move into a starting role in most leagues this year.

Miller should have a breakout year IMO.Bush will be decent in FF,not great.Murphy might be a last WR taken sleeper. He will have some good games and some with no stats at all.A risky play unless you have injury problems and bye week issues.Jano is a good kicker but the raiders dont score enough to grab him

That is true the WR position becomes thin.I think Bush will have a decent year not great just because of our O line is bad.We made some good long term moves on the O line but will pretty much have the same bunch as last year to start.Hopefully a healthy Gallery stabilizes things

Here is the funny thing, I really think from a fantasy football point of view, the Raiders may have the second best output in the AFC West. I cannot imagine many Broncos or Chiefs being drafted. With San Diego, you have Rivers, Gates and Jackson (if he is there) and then a pretty big drop off. Sprioles is decent, but the rookie may get more looks. Defensively it is Phillips. I really do not expect much in the way of high powered offense in the west, with the exception of SD

SD's rookie Rb will get alot of looks, Oakland could be much more improved this year as far as fantasy football goes. The D while it gives up too many yards and points, does create alot of turnovers and sacks. IF it stops the run and cuts down points (and gets rested from the O getting some drives) they will be worth a look.
As far as the league my friends and I run (my creation back in the days of paper tracking fantasy football) We use 3 qbs, 5wr, 5rb, 2te, 2k, 2 d/special teams. Campbell would be worth a flyer as a 3rd qb, Bush is a decent option (running backs are very thin this year) at WR the position is alot deeper this year than in the past, so Murphy would be a late round flyer, but Schillings would be the guy Id rather take, as long as he is healthy he rarely drops a pass. |
